About

The Russian ( Soviet) National Committee for IGCP was established in April , 1975 as an interdepartmental organization to facilitate and coordinate Russian scientists participation and research activities within the long lasting IGCP Program - a joint endeavor of UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences.

The Committee is attached to the RAS Earth Sciences Department and comprises representatives of interested ministries and organizations. The Committee maintains close contacts with the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO.

In February 2004, the Committee has been renamed into "The Russian National Committee for Geoscience Programme (IGCP)" in accordance with the new name of the Programme.
